Meet the ELA and Social Studies Team
This year, there will be three teachers teaching Language Arts and Social Studies to the fourth and fifth graders at Southwood. The fifth graders will have Language Arts and Social Studies in the morning and the fourth graders will have Language Arts and Social Studies in the afternoon.
Miss Poll
- Miss Poll is the 4th grade team teacher in the pilot program! This is her first year at Southwood Elementary. Last year two years, she worked as a K-5 reading interventionist and also taught 4th grade summer school at Bowen. Her teaching career started off very uniquely however. Upon graduation, Miss Poll and her friends wanted to do something different. They packed up, found an apartment in Columbia, South Carolina and began looking for jobs. Fortunately for her, she landed her first “real” job as a 7th grade English/Language Arts teacher at Sandhills Middle School. She loved the three years spent in the same position, but felt a need to return to her roots in West Michigan.
When she’s not teaching, she spends her time being as active as she can! She has started running on a daily basis in an attempt to train for a half marathon. She likes to golf, read, travel, ski, wakeboard, shop, and overall have a good time and laugh a lot!
Miss Poll is very much looking forward to this school year. She believes this program has the potential to make every single Southwood student succeed. She looks forward to working with your children!
