Meet the Math and Science Team
This year, there will be three teachers teaching Math and Science to the fourth and fifth graders at Southwood. The fourth graders will have Science and Math in the morning and the fifth graders will have Science and Math in the afternoon.
Mrs. Pittenger
- Hello and welcome to 5th Grade! I am excited to be your teacher this year. I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a major in math and a minor in elementary education. This will be my second year as the fifth grade lead teacher and my fourth year at Southwood. I really enjoy it here and I believe that Southwood's Innovative TECH Program has a lot to offer our students. I am looking forward to having my previous fourth graders as fifth graders this year and getting to know all of my new students! It should be a fun-filled academic year.

I'm so excited to be a part of this team and I'm even more excited about meeting and working with all the students this year! I'm a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I taught at Challenger elementary last year as my first year out of school. I taught Math in Focus last year and loved all the tools the program gives to students. I love playing music, running, sewing and playing with my cat Boombox! I know this year will be so amazing!

Welcome to another exciting school year! I am very happy to be a part of Southwood's wonderful Math and Science team. I am a graduate of Hope College, where I studied Elementary Education and played 4 years of college football. I have spent the past 5 years at Kelloggsville Public Schools, where I taught 1st and 6th grade. When I am not teaching I enjoy being active, watching University of Michigan football, and spending time with my family and friends. This year will be such a wonderful experience, as I get to know new students, parents, and staff members at Southwood!
